How to Lead a Minimalist Life

What is minimalism? Minimalism is living with the bare minimum that you really need. It also means buying what you need. And keeping what you really value. So why to live a minimalist? Don’t we get happy buying stuffs? How would you feel when you buy a brand new sports car? Ecstatic? Correct? Is it not an interesting conundrum? In this post, we will discuss why minimalism is the way to go. And how to lead a minimalist life.

“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”

Confucius

Why Minimalism?

So why minimalism? Let’s explore more.

Simplicity

Would you appreciate a life that is really simple? Life where we take care of our day-to-day needs. Where we don’t have all the amenities in the world but just enough to live comfortably.

It could be as simple as living on rent as well. Where we don’t even have all the headaches of being a homeowner. Unless we really enjoy home improvement or its maintenance.

The less we own physical things or assets, the simpler is our life. Think about it.

Less Stress

With a lot of physical ownerships, comes a lot of stress. Think about it. You own a beach vacation house. You have your boat. And a hurricane is at the onset. And you live in another part of the state or country. Then you install surveillance on your property to monitor. How is the adrenaline level just when the hurricane meets landfall?

Could we not get the experiences of a beach house and boat by renting when we need versus owning?

Better Health

Would the reduced stress lead to better health? Should our cholesterol level be under better control? Should it help us with reduce obesity risk or heart disease? Something to think about.

More Time

What do we do when we have fewer things to worry about? Find more time? How can we use this extra time?

Finding Purpose in Life

Could we step back and spend more time to think about our priorities in life? Could this help find us our purpose in life?

Finding Passion/ Calling

Could we take this time to discover or rediscover or genuine passion? Our calling in life? Could this time help us find true fulfillment in the work we do for a living?

Strengthen Relationships

With more time and less stress, we can spend more time with our beloved. The most valuable thing we can give to any relationship is our time. No money or goods.

Need Less

So what happens when we need less being a minimalist?

Financial Security and Wealth

If we spend less because we need less, can we not save more? For retirement or any exigency? Can we not take less mortgage or become debt free? Pay off education mortgages and home mortgage? Can we not achieve financial freedom early? Can we not do the work what we really feel good about versus trading time for money?

With similar income and less spend, guess what? More wealth?

More to Give Back

We have more to give back? To the community. To support global causes. Both in form of our time and monetarily.

Environment

What happens if the materialism in the world reduces? People stop buying what they really don’t need? Interesting, right? There will be less consumption. Will be less production. Fewer resources will produce. We will not create a greener world? Less global warming. More sustainable environment.
