Who is “Ankh”?

Pen Name

My pen name is “Ankh” and I am the author at Finding Fulfillment in Life. The ankh stands for the key in life. It is an ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol used to represent “life” in Egyptian scripts.

Global Citizen

I come from India, and can say with my roots in Kolkata, a city in the eastern part of India. It is the City of Joy based on the book by Dominique Lapierre. I am an engineer in education and profession. My major was in mechanical engineering. I immigrated to the United States in 2017 after an expat assignment in Chengdu, China for two years. Prior to moving to China, I grew up in India, where I worked for about eighteen years. I currently live and work in the North Carolina state of the United States. Also, I consider myself a global citizen, having lived and worked in several countries.

Early Life

I was born and brought up in India. And pretty much I have an upbringing that is modest. I was born in a small industrial town named Sindri, in the eastern part of India. My father worked in the government public sector undertaking industry so had a transferable job, thus I lived and studied in different parts of India. In addition, my parents always believed in providing me and my siblings with the best possible education we could get. Like most Indians, I am multi-lingual. I can speak three languages: Bengali, Hindi, and English.

Growing up in a developing country like India, one can understand poverty, suffering, illiteracy, ignorance, stigmas, child labor, and lack of social infrastructure. But on the brighter side, one can also relate to spiritualism, enlightenment, cultural diversity, tolerance, hospitality, acceptance, contentment, gratitude and hope for a better tomorrow. There is so much one can learn about the different colors of life, living in India compared to developed countries. So that is the foundation for my upbringing, I would say. India is a very diverse country, which makes the case for one to at least visit India once. Also, l worked in different cities in India, which helped be picking up the diverse flavors of Indian culture.

Present-Day

Later, I moved to China and lived and worked there for a while before I moved to the US. I loved living and working in China, amongst one of the most warm and welcoming people in the world. Have great nostalgic memories from my life in China. The US, like many would say, is the land of opportunities, freedom and equality. And it provides equal opportunity for all to live the American dream. Life for me has been a journey and still continues to be in the US.

You might wonder what do I do for work? Well, I work for a US based innovation company. I love my work and am extremely proud of what I do for a living. It’s more than a living, it’s also my life. Guess I am an ardent believer in work life integration rather than work life balance. Interesting topic enough for a blog post!

Further, I am also an ardent believer in continuous learning, more so I may call myself as a lifelong learner. And I am a firm proponent of formal education, though I agree we learn probably more from informal learning opportunities and life experiences. But I wouldn’t discount formal education against informal education. That is probably the reason I did my MBA from my state university after many years of schooling. It is for sure a novel experience going back to school and learning in a formal setup. And trust me, I throughly enjoyed my MBA learning experience. Further, it is a great way to upskill and develop competencies related to my current work.

I enjoy living and working among diverse cultures. I have been fortunate to have worked in brilliant companies with incredible and outstanding people. So through this blog, I’d like to share my learning, which might be helpful to others. Life has always fascinated me. Starting with our purpose in life and subsequently trying to explore true fulfillment in life.

So hope you enjoy learning more about what is fulfillment in life and how to find it. Glad to have you onboard this journey.

Life-Style

I lead a minimalist life. In addition, also live a frugal and simple life. This has helped me live a debt-free life. So that is one reason I advocate for minimalism through my writings. Minimalism is not only beneficial for us, but is also likely a solution to sustainability. I also spend a considerable time reading online, more so you could also term me as a netizen. Since I learn so much reading online, that is also one reason for my running this blog. Guess I have a social responsibility to give back to the global online community that is a source of my learning and inspirations. I love writing posts for my blog as you might see and am very passionate about the topics I write about. It is also a medium of self expression besides giving back to my readers who may find it helpful and brings value. I believe life is short and one way of living to our lives to the fullest is do what you really enjoying doing. Also, because we live only one life. Writing to me is my way of living a fulfilling life.

Beliefs

God has been extremely merciful towards me and I am indebted for what I have and got. I can’t say enough of my gratitude towards god and everyone in the world. I truly am. So let’s try to learn from each other and give each other towards making this world a better place. We all owe a lot to each other. And we all have a lot to share to help each other. Truly believe in I exist because we exist. I will be more than happy to help you in whatever way I can. That is also the purpose of this blog, so please reach out to me through the comments or contact me section if you need any help.
